Ok guys... you might think I'm crazy [or not] but I'm thinking of riding the bike across the country. I'm supposed to leave for Portland next Friday but with these crazy gas prices, I was thinking of riding. Why not make a whole experience out of it.. You know? I'm just afraid of getting half way there and getting bummed that this country is so damn big. I've driven across about six times with the band and it's not so bad. So I'm opening this up to conversation... give me your feedback - and any famous roads I might wanna hit. Thinking a lot of slab and hitting some great destination twisties to break it up. Also.. feel free to let me know if this is a bad idea.
Since I'm supposed to be back in NYC by the 19th... maybe just maybe I can meet you guys at Indy.

Hmmmm...hard choice. That's a lot of miles there & back. It could be a cool adventure that's for sure. & then you could ride it out in Portland. I vote you do it.
I vote you ride as well.
Slabbing it out past PA is probably a good idea. The little roads are crowded - as we well know.
Besides, everyone always raves about the American West as the ideal place to ride. All told, that's about 2,500 miles or so, right?
You may wanna get a GPS and program in some "non-highway" routes and see what happens.
I've got luggage you can borrow!!
I think you should go for it. It will be a trip to remember and roads you may only see once in a life time on a bike. Get some type of throttle lock for the slab portions.
P-
You already know what I'm gonna... I ssay DO IT.
I can help you route your trip is needed. If you are going to do it, please be sure that you & the bike are prepared.
Tires good? MC shops along the way? Oil changed? Brake pads good? Rain gear? Cold & hot weather gear? Drivetrain ok? Need bike luggage? Just saying.
One of these days when I have the time and permission to do it, I'm planning on riding cross country...
Definitely take a whole lotta pix!
still on the fence about it.. ugh this is killing me!
Eric.. I'll give you a call
Tom.. thanks for the offer. I may take you up on it
Call me a pansy but... I'm taking the car... it just makes more sense. But if anyone wants to ride across country in the future... I'd be down ;)
